Our September

I wouldn't want you to think our month was completely full of fun and games. I know I already posted about so many fun things...
...but September was more than that. We started out the month with a round of a flu bug for Michael, Miriam, and I (thank goodness Simon dodged that one). Poor Michael was out of town suffering in a hotel room all alone. Then, Miriam and Simon also had colds this past week. All the sickness made the quiet nap times all the more precious.

Simon loves sleeping with a blanket around his head.

Simon has really started to enjoying coloring. He is pretty good at coloring only in his coloring book, but I definitely have to keep an close eye on him. If he gets a hold of a pen...

Michael went out to Provo to help his firm with recruiting. He brought back a special present for Miriam. She loves her new Book of Mormon. She loves taking her own scriptures to church. I find her pretending to read out of them often. I hope that means we are doing something right with teaching her the importance of scriptures.

We spent the rest of the month completing projects and getting ready for fall. We have put most of the summer clothes away and have the fall clothes ready and waiting. (Why is it supposed to get to 85 degrees this week?) Once October hits I am ready for fall to arrive in full swing. We have some fun things in store. Michael is getting pretty busy with work this time of year, so I have to make sure I stay busy and positive about the fall season. I wouldn't want to be going crazy right before the holidays.

by the way I can't believe this is my 400th post

Air Show

This morning we went to the almost world famous Leesburg Air Show. We thought the kids would love seeing all the airplanes. There was actually a lot of them to see. Miriam and Simon were even able to sit inside a couple of the airplanes.

To make the air-show more exciting there was a bonus car-show in the middle of it. Fun, but random.

Ha-ha!
Miriam wasn't posing as an Asian tourist, she was telling me how many people could fit in the car.
She was really intrigued by the small cars that could only fit 2 people.

After walking around the tarmac it was time for lunch. Michael was a rock-star for waiting in line for some overpriced (not very good) food. While he waited we found a spot to watch the actual air-show. The kids were not as interested in the flying planes as I thought...

 ...Simon played on the stroller...

... and Miriam balanced her doll on her head.

We ended up having a good time. The kids played around for a while before I went crazy trying to contain them in a huge crowd. Simon was so tired, he fell asleep in the stroller on the way to the car... and stayed asleep while I transferred him to his car-seat... and to his bed at home. Oh and we did actually see airplanes flying... see?

we love dressing up

Sunday is my favorite day of the week. I love the peace the sabbath day brings. I love that Michael is home with us. I love getting the family ready for church. Last Sunday I had Michael take pictures of me for my other blog. Miriam didn't want to be left out so we took her picture too. Simon is too cute to pass up a great photo opportunity, so we took his picture also. At the end we managed to snap a quick family picture. We sure do clean up nicely.

The lighting was a little tricky on these photos. I tried to play around in Photoshop a little bit to fix them. Oh how I wish I had more time to learn more about Photoshop. I am no where near where I would hope to be on my Photoshop skills. One day people, one day.

Side note: Michael serves in the junior nursery in our ward. He has worn the exact same thing to church every week since he got the calling a year ago. He never wants to wear his nice clothes because the kids will just yuck them up. I think he looks good no matter what, but he does have nicer clothes that he wears to work. Now as I am typing this I am sure no one even noticed a thing.

Perfect Weather

I have felt really bad about not taking the kids out to play as much as I would like. During the summer it was just so hot. Now that it is cooling off I feel like I have no more excuses. I need to take them outside. Miriam was asking all day to ride her bike. After Simon's nap I carried it down the two flights of stairs (living in a condo is such a pain sometimes) so we could ride around the building.

Simon was content to follow Miriam around on the sidewalk.

It has been a while since she has been on her bike. It took a little bit, but once she got the hang of it she did pretty well. She still needs to grow into the bike a bit (next year should be perfect). I was so proud of my little girl.

In other news, what happened to my baby boy? Where did this fun little boy come from? I can't believe how much Simon has grown up this summer.

Always willing to smile at the camera.

Even though it didn't last very long, it was good to get out. A 70 degree afternoon is a perfect time to get out and get some fresh air. I just hope it doesn't get too cold too soon.

Day at the National Zoo

Michael's company sponsored a day at the zoo today. It was a great excuse to take the kids on the metro and head downtown. Michael's company had a section of the zoo reserved. They had a huge tent with food, music, and activities for the kids. We forgot our camera, so we took pictures on the iPad and Michael's phone instead.

waiting for the metro

riding the train

going to see the elephants

watching the elephants

getting a better view of the elephants

the elephants got pretty close at the end

we actually spent a lot of time watching the elephants
Simon loved them

after lunch Miriam got her face painted
she was sad we had to wash it off in the bath

trying to pet the donkey at the petting zoo

Miriam gave us a scare at the zoo. For the first time, she walked off without us. It was only a minute until we found her, and she didn't even know she was alone. She was just walking along talking to herself.
