What a Hot Weekend

We spent the holiday weekend out and about as a family. Even though Miriam woke up with a fever Thursday night she seemed to be feeling better by Saturday. So, Saturday night we went to a fireworks show, but I forgot the camera. Miriam really loved them and commented on all the pretty colors. Simon wasn't a fan so we just tried to cover his ears the whole time. Sunday we enjoyed attending church together and had a nice roast beef dinner afterward. Monday we decided to brave the heat (it was in the 90's - plus humidity - all weekend) and go to Mount Vernon. Michael's mom was able to come with us. None of us had been in quite a while so we were excited to get out and spend Memorial day at George Washington's home.

We made sure to bring and drink plenty of water. After Mount Vernon we headed back for some amazing ribs (prepared by Michael's dad). My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. However, on the way home we noticed a bunch of red splotches on Miriam's face. We thought that we must have missed spots applying sunscreen. Then we noticed that there were some under her chin. We thought that it might be heat rash. By the time we got back she was miserable and cranky. She wouldn't eat dinner and just wanted to sleep on the couch. She said her ear hurt, so we decided to take her to urgent care. She has another ear infection and the red spots were just from her fever. Unfortunately the pharmacies were all closed Monday night, so Michael went into work late today so he could pick up her prescription. She seems much better today.

Just a note, the last time she got an ear infection was on New Year's Eve. We have decided that holidays are bad for us and kids getting sick. Here's hoping the Fourth of July can pass without incident.
